Citizen Science Bootcamp: Understanding your Waterways

Are you concerned about the health of a local lake or river? Do you want to start tracking water health to see how it changes over time?
This workshop is for any Nova Scotian looking to monitor the health of their local waterway. It will walk you through the ins and outs citizen science water monitoring programs, including how to design and maintain a citizen science program that is right for you and your waterway, getting your boots wet and using equipment in the field, and what to do with your data to inspire change.
The entire citizen science bootcamp includes the following:
- A one-day interactive online bootcamp
- A self-led online water monitoring certification course
- An in-field instructional equipment session
- The free use of Atlantic Water Network’s water monitoring equipment bank to continue water monitoring throughout the summer and for years to come
You will leave this program with a monitoring program outline tailored to your waterway and the skills needed to collect and use water data.
The online bootcamp will take place on June 5, 2021. Registration ends on May 20 2021. Registration is open to individuals and small groups of up to 5.
You do not need any experience with water monitoring to take the course, but a passion for environmental health is encouraged!
